The Line Gang and Line Truck The Chauffer had to get in on the curb side and the Foreman sat next to him the Lineman rode on the back of the truck, which was no fun in the winter. This truck had a pump on the front for doing underground work. Behind the ladder is the boom which was heavy and had to be laid out at the rear of the truck and raised with the winch. Once a pole was raised it was impossible to raise or lower the boom. The wooden poles on the side of the truck are pike poles used for raising poles when the truck can't be used, their also used to temporary support poles. In the bed of the truck was a large winch used for pulling underground cable and all types of line construction. Behind the rear fenders are jacks which were lowered when doing heavy lifting.
